Create A Forum

Here is the thing, there are many forum platforms out there, some are good and some are bad, some you even have to pay for.

But what if I told you there is 1 forum system that is not only free and full of members support, it is also very professional and easy to learn/configure.

You can spend money buying a forum system to install on this site, but I think it's a waste especially if you are a beginner and aren't generating money online yet.

I have tried many forum systems and this one is by far the best:

Let Me Introduce You To: PHPBB Forums

What Is PHPBB?

Millions of people use PHPBB and since it's open source, many people create their own mods and themes and make them available for the rest of the community to download for free!

I have more than 1 forum installed on my other websites and they are all based on PHPBB, it is simply the best!

Installing PHPBB

1. Download:

View their download page by going Here. Then make sure you choose "Full Package" such as below:

forum1

Then choose a ZIP format since it's common and easy to open:

2. Putting The Files In The Correct Location:

Now that you downloaded the file, make sure to extract it and you have 2 options, you can either install the forums locally on your computer or you can upload it to your website's server using an FTP program and continuing from there.

For this tutorial I'm going to show you how to install your forums on your online server.

Note: If you want to install the forums locally, then make sure you read my tutorial on "Installing Local Environment Xampp" then just move the extracted files under your website's folder and continue reading below.

Once you unzip the file, take the unzipped folder and transfer it to your online server using your preferred FTP client.

Make sure to rename your forum folder to the name you want people to see in the address bar when they link to your forum, I usually use "forum" for the folder name.

Watch this quick video on how to upload the forum to your server:

Now that your files are on the server the installation process can begin, we will now do all our work from within the browser.

3. Installing PHPBB:

Remember copying the forum folder in the previous step? We are going to point to that folder in our browser in order to start the installation.

The link to that folder should look something like this:

www.YourSiteName.com/forum/

I have created a dummy folder on my online server for demonstration purposes, so my link looks like this:
www.CreateAWebsiteIncome.com/testsite/forum/

The folder "testsite" refers to the root of an actual website, and thus you can have the forum folder under the root of your site directly.

Now to start up the installation, point your browser to the address:

www.YourSiteName.com/forum/

and you will be able to display the forum's installation page.

Make sure to click the "INSTALL" tab and you will be given the following screen:

At this point all you have to do is follow the instructions on your screen HOWEVER before you can even proceed, you need to make sure that you have created a DATABASE on your online server first so you can fill in the fields in the installation.

If you don't know how to create a Database, check my tutorial on how to install a local enviroment and create a Database Here.
